Before it was a retreat, it was home
The family home where Richard and Shirley raised their family, reimagined by their daughters Yvonne and Yvette to preserve the family's legacy and share it with guests.
The family story
This is the house where Richard and Shirley raised their family, on a quiet point of Aquia Creek in Widewater, Virginia. Their daughters, Yvonne and Yvette, have restored it so other families can make memories here too.
“Before it became the luxurious indoor pool you see today, we used to skateboard and ride our bikes in it! Our father even had the Widewater volunteer fire department fill it from the river with a firetruck.”
The pool they once rode their bikes in is now the heated indoor pool. The old dock is now a covered pier. And the house, still full of family touches, welcomes up to 14 guests at a time.

The house today
The restoration kept what made the house a family home and added the comforts a big group needs. There are seven bedrooms, each with Egyptian cotton linens, four pillows on every bed and a monogrammed robe. An elevator runs from the garage to the kitchen level, so grandparents and grocery bags don't have to take the stairs. The kitchen has a Viking cooktop, double wall ovens and a wine chiller, and the sunroom looks out over the water.
Outside, multiple acres of lawn and trees slope down to Aquia Creek. The covered pier has slips where guests may tie up their own boat, and kayaks, paddleboards and life vests come with every stay. In the evening, guests gather around the waterfront fire pit to watch the sun go down over the creek. One guest called it “Genuinely the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen.”
The house is booked through Airbnb, where it's a Guest favorite and an Airbnb Luxe home rated 5.0 from 23 reviews, and through VRBO, where it's rated 10/10 from 21 reviews. Yvonne answers questions on both.
Airbnb Luxe is by invitation. Before the house was accepted, an Airbnb representative came to visit, interviewed Yvonne and toured the home in person.
